What is Benzoin Resinoid?

Benzoin is a resin extracted from the Styrax tree. It is a viscous liquid that is dark brown in colour with a sweet and slightly spicy aroma.

The pure benzoin resin is dissolved in a solvent, which is usually ethanol. The ethanol is then evaporated off and the remaining benzoin resin is then made pourable by diluting it.

Our benzoin resinoid is diluted at 50% in DPG (dipropylene glycol), which is a clear liquid often used as a carrier.

Benzoin is not technically an essential oil as it is not steam distilled or cold pressed.

What is Benzoin Resinoid Used For?

Benzoin resinoid can be used in skin care products like lotions, creams, soaps, incense and perfumery.

It can be blended with essential oils for a balanced and rounded aroma. Benzoin blends well with essential oils like lemon, orange, myrrh, patchouli, frankincense, sandalwood, lavender and jasmine.

Benzoin is also used in aromatherapy as its warming aroma has great calming and grounding effects.
