When used in a formulation, sodium lactate effectively hydrates and revitalises dry and brittle skin, whilst also helping skin maintain a healthy pH level.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eIt has multiple purposes - sodium lactate acts as a preservative enhancer due to its properties in inhibiting bacteria growth; the salt also functions as a buffering agent and humectant moisturiser, helping to strengthen the skin moisture barrier.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eWhat is sodium lactate used for?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eSodium lactate is incredibly popular as an additive in cold process soap, as it can help produce a harder bar of soap. This makes it easier to unmould and speeds up the drying process. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eWhen making cold processed soap, the sodium lactate is added to cooled lye water. Testing it is very important at this step, as too much sodium lactate can result in a crumbly bar of soap.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eSodium lactate can also be used in lotions, as a substitute to glycerine to create a more hydrating product, which is creamier and thicker in consistency. As a benefit additive, the humectant properties of sodium lactate keeps skin moisturised for longer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-color=\"transparent\"\u003eAs well as delivering a hydrating formulation, sodium lactate cuts down on the stickiness sometimes found in lotion with a high glycerine content. In lotion recipes, we do not recommend adding too much sodium lactate. We consider Geogard to be 80% natural.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eGeogard Ultra is from organic acids, that act as an efficient preservative. The INCI breakdown is 70-80% Gluconolactone, 22-28% Sodium Benzoate and 1-2% Calcium Gluconate.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe gluconolactone is produced by fermenting natural glucose which is derived from non GMO corn. However, sodium benzoate is synthetic and is petroleum based. The calcium gluconate is produced from a mineral calcium source, and fermented glucose.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe combination of gluconolactone and sodium benzoate creates gluconic acid over time.
